Aboriginal pedagogy emphasises teaching through culture rather than simply about culture. Through this workshop, educators will explore the diverse ways Aboriginal peoples know, be, and do—fostering a deeper appreciation for
Aboriginal culture and its significance in education.
Jessica from the Koori Curriculum and Belinda, from Freshwater Education, both experienced Aboriginal educators, will guide participants through hands-on activities that include Aboriginal art, storytelling, and forming connections with Country. This workshop offers practical experiences that will enable educators to critically reflect on their own practices, discover how to weave cultural perspectives into their everyday teaching and build cultural responsiveness.
What to Expect:
- Play Kits: Participants will receive specially curated play kits upon arrival, filled with resources to enhance their learning experience.
- Group Activities: Engage with fellow attendees as you unravel and reflect on your teaching practices. Collaborate to share ideas and insights that promote inclusiveness in the classroom.
- Cultural Immersion: Come prepared to play, yarn, and connect with your fellow educators — all while enjoying the rich tapestry of Aboriginal culture.
This workshop is for all educators who are open to new ways of knowing, being, and doing, and who strive to create inclusive classrooms that celebrate the diversity of all children.
